Family Album

Dave was born in Houston and is proud of his Texas roots. He moved around as a kid – including places as diverse as Luling, LA, Brownsville Texas, Charleston, WV and Valley Forge, PA. He and his younger brother are shown here with Dave’s parents.

Dave grew up loving sports and competing – baseball, wrestling, windsurfing, golf, skiing, or riding bikes in the neighborhood as a kid.

One of Dave’s mentors and godfather was Dick Schiebel, a Korean War fighter pilot who taught Dave life skills including how to juggle, not stand in line, and live life unabashedly.

Dave met his true love at The University of Michigan, and they were married in 1987, a year and a half after they graduated.

They have 3 beautiful kids, all of whom have found their life partner, and 3 grandkids and counting.

Dave has remained close to his college friends.

Dave’s career had two phases, first using his Industrial Engineering degree and MBA in Fortune 500 companies including Frito-Lay, Pillsbury/General Mills, and Ecolab. Highlights include negotiating 50+ mergers and acquisitions around the globe, bringing Haagen-Dazs and Ben & Jerry’s together, and leading a merger between Ecolab and Nalco.

Keil then became a turnaround CEO for franchisor companies, including Haagen-Dazs Shoppes, HoneyBaked Ham, Pure Barre, and Lash Lounge.

Dave moved back to Ann Arbor in 2018 and led Franworth, a portfolio of emerging franchise brands, as president through 2024.

Dave now is a board member, advisor, and friend to those in franchising, and is focused on his family, health, friends, travel, and growing Franchise For Good.
